Every business has risks associated with it. This is why managing it is necessary for every business organization. As a matter of fact, it is one of the factors that must be considered before starting a business. The objective of this article therefore is to explore the strategies on how to manage risks in business. In order to attain this objective, it is pertinent to begin with the semantic analysis of risk management because the strategies on how to manage risks are encapsulated in its meaning. According to Investigator, risk management is a two-step process - determining what risks exist in an investment and then handling those risks in a way best-suited to your investment objectives. The Institute of Risk Management defines it as the process which aims to help organizations understand, evaluate and take action on all their risks with a view to increasing the probability of their success and reducing the likelihood of failure. For the purpose of this article, we shall adopt the definition of by Wikipedia as our working definition. From that definition, we have been able to deduce the strategies and steps on how to manage risks which are: Identification There is no risk-free life From the indication above, identification of risks associated with a business is the first step of the risk management process. When this is done, the next step is to assess the risks so as to determine their impact on the business. The third step is to prioritize the them according to their level of impact on the business if they occur. The final step of the risk management process is to put measures in place in order to minimize the chances of the risk occurring. |
