NFL players have succumbed to protest pressure

von pinkpink am 11.04.2018 04:31

From Robinson to Ali, the power of player http://www.montrealcanadiensofficialonline.com/Adidas-Mark-Streit-Jersey activism has always http://www.officialauthenticcardinalsstore.com/womens_haason_reddick_jersey been rooted in its moral imperative. The recent wave has been no different, motivated by moments like in August 2014, when Ferguson police shot Michael Brown dead and left his body on the street, baking in the http://www.authenticoilersshoponline.com/authentic-25-darnell-nurse-jersey.html summer heat for hours.

Or when police choked Eric Garner to death that same summer, or killed Philando Castile and Terence Crutcher in 2016. People filled the streets to protest the violence. Players like Colin Kaepernick and Eric Reid joined them in on-field protests.

The sports world did its best to kill the protests, aided by a media that largely refused to understand the revolt and by the willful ignorance of owners and fans who never believed this part of America was a problem. The efforts appear to have succeeded. Kaepernick is still without a job. Reid, a free agent safety, said on March 22 that if signed by a team he would discontinue his two-year practice of kneeling during the anthem in protest of police brutality.
The next day, Malcolm Jenkins, Anquan Boldin and Devin McCourty -- three members of the Players Coalition, Dan Girardi Womens Jersey a group of activist players that in November negotiated with owners an $89 million partnership to contribute to social causes -- gave the keynote address at a Harvard seminar on criminal justice reform.
Speaking about on-field protest, McCourty told USA Today, "That was a vehicle that we used to draw attention, but doing some type of protest on the field every week is not going to stop an unarmed black kid from getting killed."
The players have clearly succumbed to the prolonged hostility to their cause and suffer a terribly absent sense of self. Their union is ambivalent toward protest, even as jobs are being threatened. Kaepernick, the hero to the people who never quite wanted to lead the people, is still an unquestioned inspiration to millions, but he hasn't spoken nationally in more than Ryan Kalil Womens Jersey a year.
In the void, his moral urgency has been co-opted. Unwilling to couple labor solidarity to protest, the players let Kaepernick die professionally, sacrificing their one strength management feared: the power of their numbers.
The coalition said their partnership wasn't a quid pro quo to end protests, yet that is what it has become. Players took ownership's money without asking for fairness. Kaepernick and now possibly Reid, who remained unsigned heading into April, have been the human cost -- and everyone seems all right with that.
Yet while the players were cutting deals with owners -- the same owners who have been historically dishonest with them about the dangers of their sport, men who have called them "inmates" and treat them as disposable -- children from Parkland to Chicago, tired of gun violence, many first inspired by Kaepernick, went precisely to the place the players negotiated to avoid:the streets.
The kids went out and marched, a million strong. They incorporated the kids from Columbine who are now adults, and the parents from Sandy Hook.
When black kids wrecked by gun violence felt omitted, they forced their way into the fight, made themselves be seen. The movement incorporated Steven Souza Womens Jersey military veterans who shared their gun-control views, a strategic alliance that obscured the violence of constant war but muted accusations that the kids were unpatriotic.
It was alliance-building the players ignored-hundreds of police officers lead anti-police brutality organizations -- and the result was being branded as anti-cop.

'Pep Guardiola's fears are realised at thunderous Anfield'

von pinkpink am 10.04.2018 04:40

Pep Guardiola hinted at what was to come at a thunderous Anfield when he admitted Manchester City were the "perfect" opponents for Liverpool in the Champions League quarter-finals.

It was not an attempt at reverse psychology by Guardiola but an acknowledgement that if one team's style is built to destroy City's smooth rhythms and potency it is Liverpool's high-octane approach under Jurgen Klopp.
And so it proved as all Guardiola's fears were realised and lightning struck twice for the Premier League champions elect in the first leg.
The only defeat on their relentless march to the title, a 4-3 loss at Anfield in January, was followed by an even more emphatic beating on an atmospheric night of pure theatre that leaves Liverpool with a commanding three-goal advantage to take to Etihad Stadium next Tuesday.
Liverpool and their fans celebrated wildly and understandably so at the final whistle - but the darker Byron Jones Authentic Jersey side on this night must not be ignored.
City's team coach was badly damaged as it was 'welcomed' by Ryan Carpenter Jersey Liverpool fans. It was unusable for the post-match return journey after coming under attack from bottles, cans and pyrotechnics before the game.
Liverpool swiftly apologised "unreservedly" and Merseyside Police - who condemned the attack as "appalling" - began an investigation. But what was arguably most disturbing of all was this so-called greeting had been flagged up on social media in advance of the game and http://www.broncosofficialfootball.com/Demaryius_Thomas_Jersey_Broncos drawn concern from City, yet was still seemingly impossible to stop.
Like a swarm of bees - how Liverpool took control against Man City
It is also impossible to measure what sort of impact it had on City's players - but this was an unsavoury and potentially dangerous incident which must somehow be avoided in future.
Guardiola, who was asked about this potential incident at his pre-match media briefing, said: "Yesterday you explained - and I am new here - that it is going to Oliver Ekman-Larsson Authentic Jersey happen. Normally when http://www.officialbluejaysproshop.com/Ja_Happ_Jersey the police know it is going to happen they try to avoid it from happening.
"I did not expect that from the Liverpool side, their people. One year ago something happened in Dortmund so we come here to play football and I don't understand this kind of situation."The bus is destroyed but I did not expect a prestigious club like Liverpool doing this sort of thing. It is not Liverpool, it is the people, but hopefully it does not happen again."
It was the start of a grim and uncomfortable night for Guardiola and City at the hands of a manager and team that has the weaponry to become their most troublesome adversaries. wholesale jerseys wholesale jerseys wholesale jerseys wholesale jerseys wholesale jerseys

Visitors have good chance of Test win - Jonny Bairstow

The visitors set New Zealand 382 to win the second Test at Hagley Oval with a day remaining.England have lost 10 of their past 12 overseas Tests and have not won away from home since October 2016."There's no reason why we can't go out there and http://www.officialfootballvikingstore.com/Nike-Alan-Page-Jersey.html take wickets," Bairstow told Test Match Special after day four.

New Zealand are 42-0 in reply to England's target, trailing by 340 runs.Bad light ended the fourth day's play early, with 98 overs scheduled to be bowled on the final Andrew Wiggins Youth jersey day.Since the beginning of 2016, England's away record in Test cricket is worse than all but Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.

They lost four Ricky Jean-Francois Authentic Jersey of the five Ashes Tests this winter, managing to salvage a draw in Melbourne, and they lost the first Test against New Zealand by an innings and 49 runs."We've got three sessions to bowl and take 10 wickets. "Going into the last day, we're in a great position. I think we've got a good chance."
Ex-England spinner Graeme Swann believes Jack Leach could play an important role in England's push for victory, if he is used correctly.Left-arm spinner Leach, making his Test debut in Christchurch, found turn and bounce to trouble New Zealand's opening batsmen.
Swann told Test Match Special that the Somerset player had not been set the right fields to allow him to bowl in a more attacking fashion."I'm going to find [Joe] Rooty in the morning, rugby tackle him, and tell him he needs to give Leach the right field," Swann said.
"Why did he have an extra cover? Why on earth would you block the one area where you want the batsman to drive, so he might create a gap Terrell McClain Authentic Jersey between bat http://www.bruinsteamprostore.com/Adam_Oates_Jersey and pad?"Swann said that Leach's experience in bowling on the final day in county cricket could help him http://www.authenticclevelandindiansshop.com/Jay-Bruce-Jersey cope with the pressure of trying to win a Test.

Virgil van Dijk warns Manchester City that

von pinkpink am 09.04.2018 09:44

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk believes an in-form Mohamed Salah is capable of doing damage even to a dominant Manchester City and could still beat Blues midfielder Kevin De Bruyne to the player of the year award.

The hugely-anticipated Champions League quarter-final clash between the Premier League's two top-scoring sides kicks off on Wednesday at Anfield where the emphasis is likely to be on goals.

Runaway league leaders City's attacking intent revolves around the De Bruyne-David Silva partnership in midfield providing the ammunition for a pacy forward http://www.officialdodgersteamshop.com/Adrian_Gonzalez_Jersey line of Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sane and either Gabriel Jesus or Sergio Aguero.
But in Salah Liverpool have the top-flight's leading scorer, with 29 of his 37 goals in a remarkable debut season with the Reds coming in the league and at such a consistent rate he has equalled the record of Robin van Persie and Cristiano Ronaldo of finding the net in 21 different matches - with six games still remaining.
Asked whether the Egypt international could do serious damage to City, having already scored http://www.officialmlbstoreco.com/MLB_JERSEYS_OAKLAND_ATHLETICS-c-1_278.html against them in their only Premier League defeat so far at Anfield in January, Van Dijk said: "That's what everyone knows. That's how we feel as Cameron Sutton Jersey well.
"He's that kind of player that you just need to be on your best. When he is 100 per cent and in the zone then he can beat anyone."There are ways to stop him but I'm not going to tell you because I don't want our opponents to think about it!"
De Bruyne's form in the first half of the season appeared Butch Goring Jersey to make him a Jim Plunkett Jersey shoo-in for the Professional Footballers' Association Players' Player of the Year award, but Salah's goalscoring exploits are likely to have made it a much closer race.
Van Dijk would not disclose whether the Liverpool players would be voting tactically and not supporting De Bruyne to help their team-mate's chances of winning."That's obviously not my decision. We need to look at ourselves," he added."He's having an amazing season but he needs to keep going, the season is still going."
Despite being elevated to superstar status over the last year after his heroics in guiding Egypt to the World http://www.buccaneersofficialauthentics.com/Authentic-Joe-Hawley-Jersey Cup, Salah remains a humble and hard-working player who shuns the limelight and is reluctant to give media interviews.
